If it ever crossed your mind that the name of one of your fave celebs meant he or she was destined to become a Hollywood star because they had a really awesome name, odds are they weren’t born with it. Some have changed their name in hopes that it would make them stand out, while others just didn’t like their given name, and a few were forced to change their monikers because only one person can be registered under a specific name.
How many of these did you already know?
If you’ve ever wondered by Charlie Sheen and his brother Emilio Estevez have different last names, it’s because Sheen was actually born Carlos Irwin Estevez. The former Two and a Half Men star asked to be called Charlie when he was just four years old in order to avoid being confused with his uncle by the same name. He says they both responded to Carlos, so he changed his name. The 48-year-old’s famous father, Martin Sheen, was born Ramon Antonio Gerardo Estevez, changing his name after he moved to Hollywood. Charlie says he never fully embraced his Spanish heritage, admitting, “I don’t wake up feeling Latino. I’m a white guy in America. I was born in New York and grew up in Malibu.”
