6 Fun (but Competitive) Video Games for Couples to Play Together

Mortal Kombat

Mortal Kombat

The newer version of this arcade classic is not for the faint of heart. There are a lot of graphic images in this game that might not be appropriate for everyone, but if you can get past it then this game is a great way to let off some steam with your partner.

However, fair warning, this game could cause some intense competitions! As with the original game, you will choose your character (Katana, Melina, Barracka, etc.) and enter into a three round fight with your partner and their choice.

This game offers a wide variety of combo moves, different for each character. You can make it interesting and have your partner pic your toon for you, or you can put it on a random mode and fight with what is chosen for you.

Either way, learn your combos (or button mash like crazy) and kick your partner’s butt!

Left 4 Dead

Left 4 Dead

With multiple releases of this game, couples can see what it would be like to be left in a world where zombies have taken over. You will be in a team of four and will have to fight your way to certain checkpoints in an attempt to reach a helicopter to escape the city.

You will face hordes of zombie, big Boomers, shrieking Witches, and some very large Tanks. You can pick up a variety of weapons along the way, including Molotov cocktails, pipe bombs, and sniper rifles (some later version include chainsaws!).

Grab your partner and prepare to defend them, and yourself, against the onslaught of zombies that await you in Left 4 Dead.

World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft

One of Blizzard Entertainment’s finest games by far, and perhaps one of the most laid back games for a couple to play, is World of Warcraft. Once again you will choose a faction (Alliance or Horde) and a toon that is right for you, and then you will begin to progress through a story line (different for each race).

If you and your partner have chosen the same toons, then you can proceed together. If not then you won’t be able to meet up until around level 10 or so. You will do things like quests, mining, herbalism, and other fun things throughout the game.

As your level increases, more opportunities open up including battlegrounds (a pvp area where you and your partner battle against others players) raids (you and 25 other players battle monsters together), and various dungeons (a team of five battling smaller versions of raids). So grab your partner, create an account, and defend Azeroth!
